Spring 2020 Update and COVID-19

Sunrise Landing Views
Recently we've had some beautiful, sunny days here on Seneca Lake. Looking out at the clear, blue water sparkling in the sunshine, one could almost believe that all is right with the world. Fortunately, we are fine here albeit yearning for normalcy - as are so many people during this unusual time of "stay at home" policies. We are blessed, as we are healthy - and fortunate to have a beautiful spot in which to isolate and stay safe. As spring has been slowly emerging in spurts from the seemingly never ending frigid weather, we have simultaneously been considering our ...

Graft Wine and Cider Bar

Seneca Lake Pier
This is the first of a series of posts highlighting some of the exciting Finger Lakes area attractions which are available to visitors and residents alike. We will begin with restaurants and will focus predominantly on the Seneca Lake area but others may also be included. Personal tastes vary widely so be advised that because a venue or business is included doesn’t automatically make it a recommendation. We will try to highlight what we think are the strengths – and on occasion may point to things that we feel, from our own experience, could be improved. We ...

Graft, A Watkins Glen Wine and Cider Bar

Now that Sunrise Landing is closed until mid April, the innkeepers can do a little exploring of their own.  Having begun that mission in earnest - we have made a wonderful discovery - Graft! It's one of the newest sensations in Watkins Glen. The decor is chic and the food extremely creative. They offer an extensive menu of small bites but most plates are meant to be shared by two. The chef is Christina McKeough who was the original owner of Hazelnut Kitchen in Trumansburg.   Our first visit, Bob and I  stuck to our favorites - we both had a classic Caesar Salad made ...

New Philosophy at Suzanne Fine Regional Cuisine

The landmark Townsend home, built in 1903,  was carefully transformed into a restaurant by Robert and Suzanne Stack and opened over a decade ago as Suzanne Fine Regional Cuisine. Two downstairs lake-facing rooms were converted into one cozy dining room offering magnificent views of Seneca Lake. An adjoining,  private library room with its table for ten and a wall of 300 cookbooks and Provençal pottery collection offered a private setting for small groups or parties, and a lovely lake view.  It is in this intimate and elegant setting that Suzanne  created her inimita...

Innkeepers Visit Glenora for Tasting and Tour

While Sunrise Landing is closed for "Inn Keeper renewal and Inn refurbishment", we take every opportunity to visit some of the exciting spots we recommend to our guests the rest of the year. Last Sunday, along with long-time  friends from Rochester, Casey and Mary Ellen Lopata, we had two special treats at Glenora Wine Cellars. We had read about their concrete egg tanks for fermenting wine and were eager to see them. The staff warmly greeted us as always and were happy to give us a mini tour before our Chocolate and Wine tasting. Breanna took us down into the wine ...
