The Himrod Eagle Restaurant 3622 Lakemont Himrod Road, Dundee NY

The Himrod Eagle Restaurant has been one of our favorite casual restaurants for years. It has also been one of our recommendations for guests who want a casual, close place that has good food. Recently this popular local spot was sold and is under new ownership by Gage Oughterson, co-owner of Highland Cellars and Finger Lakes Wine Company.  One always wonders when new management takes over a popular restaurant, what the results will be. Even though the new owners technically took over the restaurant a couple of weeks ago, Saturday, February 22 was the Grand Opening and we decided to check it out.  We arrived at about 8:20 as the crowd is ...

Graft Wine and Cider Bar

This is the first of a series of posts highlighting some of the exciting Finger Lakes area attractions which are available to visitors and residents alike. We will begin with restaurants and will focus predominantly on the Seneca Lake area but others may also be included. Personal tastes vary widely so be advised that because a venue or business is included doesn’t automatically make it a recommendation. We will try to highlight what we think are the strengths – and on occasion may point to things that we feel, from our own experience, could be improved. We encourage you to check the online ratings and also “see and taste for yourself”. ...

2020 GREETINGS FROM SUNRISE LANDING

Warm Greetings from Our Home to Yours We closed for the 2019 season in December with a houseful of happy guests checking out. Most were visiting for the Deck the Halls wine trail event. The weekend went well and the holiday food, wine and festivities seemed to be enjoyed by all. In spite of a second winter storm with significant snowfall, the weather had cleared prior to the weekend and Bob managed to get Apple Road cleared well enough so that getting in and out was a breeze for all.    Watkins Glen is Finally Emerging from Renovations  After a couple of New York State multi-million dollar grants several years ago to revitalize ...

Banana Muffins

Williams Sonoma is one of my  favorite sources for yummy recipes that always work. This one I have been making since we opened our Bed and Breakfast almost 14 years ago. It is from their muffin cookbook. As a rule, I use King Arthur all-purpose unbleached white flour. For Gluten Free guests I now use King Arthur, Gluten Free Measure for Measure Flour Mixture and it works so well that when I have guests who require Gluten Free, I serve the Gluten Free to all guests, and still get rave reviews. (I use King Arthur all-purpose unbleached white flour), or use Link for Gluten Free Measure for Measure Flour mixture. A few other adaptions from the original ...

Sunrise Landing on Seneca Lake to Begin New Season on April 14 With Reduced Opening Rates.

The beginning of a new season on Seneca Lake is so exciting. Spring is in the air, the lake and the sky are a gorgeous blue, and the robins are busy finding twigs to build their nests.  At Sunrise Landing we are also busy getting ready for a new season to begin April 14. Spring Cleaning has been well on its way with all the essentials of the deep cleaning we do each year at the beginning of the season. Bob has been taking down the fencing that was put up in the fall to keep the deer  and other wildlife from feasting on our landscaping - and on the inside painting and giving extra attention to any nicks or scratches that need his attention. We ...
